Charles studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design.

On the grids – “Bierk toys with the notion of the blurred photo, the botched shot and the scuffed print. The fiercely cropped faces come in and out of the mosaic layout of irregular line patterns, till we wonder: what’s ‘real,’ and what’s abstract?”

 –    Robert Everett-Green, The Globe and Mail

On the portraits – “Like Chuck Close, Bierk gives us a hand-made portrait of a photo, in an era when most public photography has been groomed and manipulated by computers.”

–    Robert Everett-Green, The Globe and Mail

“The effect of the precision and size is striking: every pore, every strand of hair has been transferred to the larger than life canvases.”

–    Andrew Weir, OTM zine
