Director’s Biography: Vikram Dasgupta was born in New Delhi, India in 1977 into a family of artists and musicians. After finishing his high school in New Delhi, he was The Government College of Art and Craft in Calcutta; founded in 1864, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges of its kind. From there, he graduated from his five-year Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with Honours and was awarded the Gold Medal for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Art and Design.
While still in art school, he made the short docudrama inSANITY about a homeless artist on the streets of Calcutta. Submitting this short film as his portfolio enabled Vikram to get accepted into the Advanced Film and Television program at Sheridan College, in 2001.
He has lived in Canada ever since and has worked in the Film and TV industries in various creative capacities, including having worked on multiple occasions for Indian musical genius AR Rahman of Slumdog Millionaire fame.

Calcutta Taxi just received an official invitation to one of the world’s biggest and most respected short film festivals. Know as the ‘mecca of short films’, the Oscar qualifying Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, selects just 79 films out of approximately 8000 submission for their International Competition category. The festival will be held in Clermont-Ferrand, France from February 1st-9th 2013.
